The Best Tides for Fishing

Tide Tables for
Porto and Lisbon

Your fishing trip starts before you leave the house. Check the tide times and make the most of the best moments the sea has to offer.

  • Low Tide

The time when the tide stops ebbing and the water level reaches its lowest point.

  • High Tide

It’s when the tide comes all the way in, and the water reaches its highest level.

  • Moon Phases

New and full moons bring spring tides. Around the quarter moons, the tidal range is smaller.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the tide data come from?

From the Hydrographic Institute of the Portuguese Navy, for the ports of Leixões (Porto) and Lisbon. Heights are in meters above chart datum. These tables are for planning a fishing trip, not for navigation.

What time zone are the times in?

The tables are in UTC. During daylight saving time, Portugal is one hour ahead, so add 1 hour. The rest of the year, UTC is the local time in Portugal.

How do I read the tables?

Most days have two high tides and two low tides, about 6 hours and 12 minutes apart. Note that the tide comes about 50 minutes later each day.

What are the best tides for fishing?

Many anglers favor the two hours either side of the turn of the tide, as the water starts or stops moving. During spring tides, around the new and full moon, more water moves.

When are new tables published?

This page is updated at the start of each month with the tables for every week of the month. On Facebook and Instagram, we post the following week’s table every Sunday.
