Safety Rules

  • Handle the hooks carefully: make sure to cover or remove the hooks from the fishing rods before transporting them. Tip: use hook covers or protective caps to ensure safety during fishing. Tip: use hook stoppers or protective covers to ensure safety when fishing.
  • Keep your distance: always fish at least 10 meters away from others to prevent accidents. Before casting your rod, make sure there's no one behind you.
  • Educate beginners: teach children and beginners the safety procedures for handling rods and hooks to reduce the risk of accidents.
  • Keep a safe distance: always stay at least 6 meters away from overhead power lines when transporting or using fishing rods to ensure safety.
  • Avoid high grip: to prevent damage, do not bend your fishing rod. Keep the rod at an angle between 45° and 60° to avoid breaking it.
  • Aim for snags: if the bait gets stuck, direct the rod towards the obstacle and back away. This reduces tension and prevents damage to the rod.
  • Handle carbon fiber rods carefully: while strong, these rods can be fragile. Avoid dropping them or hitting them against hard surfaces to prevent damage to the equipment.
  • Transport safely: disassemble the rod and store it in a protective case to prevent damage caused by impacts or external factors during transportation.
  • Handle graphite rods carefully: these rods conduct electricity. Avoid using them during storms or near power lines to ensure your safety.
  • Release stuck bait or sinkers safely: never pull bait, or sinkers stuck in trees or bushes using the rod and fishing line. This can fling the material in your direction. Only release them with your hands.
The Okuma Makaira Sea Silver Special Edition reels are smoke-anodized gray.
The carbonite-constructed brake system maximizes brake pressure, efficiency and overall smoothness.
Its larger, lower-speed crank drivetrain compared to the original Makaira delivers extreme torque to the Makaira Sea Silver.

Spool bearings with TSI-301 oil, increases "freespool" 2 and a half times.
All reel bearings are fully engaged and sealed to maximize durability.
Body, side covers, reel, drag system and crank, all made of Type II bronze, highly durable and resistant to corrosion.

Okuma's rigid machined body construction incorporates a single-piece, fully machined aluminum frame. These rigid aluminum bar frames are the ultimate in precision alignment and tolerances that withstand more pressure and torque than any other material used.

Okuma's patented "T" shaped handle provides an ergonomically correct angle to ensure the angler gets maximum power with minimum fatigue. The T-grip takes full advantage of the natural dynamics of the hand, wrist and forearm to help maintain the angler's strength and endurance.

Okuma’s 2-speed technology incorporates two sets of stainless steel ring Kitchens and pinions, allowing anglers the option of a high-speed Kitchen ratio or a low-speed Kitchen ratio for maximum power and torque. Shifting Kitchens is as easy as pushing a button or opening a lever with Okuma’s unique shift design to get the Kitchen ratio you want.

To place the brake in an extremely strong position, yet with a smooth release, the Okuma Makaira’s lever drag system is designed with a patented Dual Force Drag System. This brake system is specifically designed to be mounted on the right side of the reel, and is designed around a drawbar brake system that keeps all the mechanical work in precise alignment and does not place stress on the body. This system works in conjunction with a custom designed thrust bearing that relieves lateral loads.

Makaira, use helical-cut main Kitchen and pinion. This process allows for better meshing, making all Kitchens fit together perfectly, with great smoothness of use. The inclined teeth found in helical-cut Kitchens mesh more gradually than straight or straight Kitchen teeth. This allows helical Kitchens to run more smoothly and quietly compared to spur Kitchens. Spur Kitchens cause stress and noise due to the difficult meshing and cannot withstand the same torque as helical Kitchens, as their teeth experience small jolts when meshing.

Okuma's patented anti-reverse system for the Makaira allows for a smoother and quieter feel that is unmatched compared to other reels on the market.

The corrosion-resistant coating combines Okuma’s patented HDG-II Kitchen system, which offers exceptional anti-corrosion properties compared to standard Kitchens, with a Corrosion X HD coating on all internal and external parts. The CRC process actually penetrates and bonds to the metal, which significantly helps with long-term protection.
